Sheds Glasgow, Scotland

It came to me that we as property owners and property renters have a need to store more and more of our possessions. The obvious place maybe the loft or the garage (if you have one). The former isn't ideal because it's never handy to shin up the ladder to access the loft space for that item you require.

The garage is easier to get to but often used for a car or other things like gym equipment for example. The logical solution to the is to get yourself an all singing and dancing garden shed.

Garden sheds come in all shapes and sizes with various heights. After doing some research on storage and sheds I found that getting a bespoke shed is a great way to successfully achieve your storage requirements. A lot of new houses are left with a long thin strip of land to either side of their houses. This piece of land is a waste of space. Not now!!! Elite Sheds and Fencing of Glasgow, Scotland offer the bespoke solution to using that land to it's best possible advantage by adding a shed to it.

This is the perfect place to house all your garden furniture, tools, machinery. It can even house gym equipment, bikes garden furniture etc etc.

A lot of shed companies in Scotland only offer regular sizes of sheds like a 6ft x 4ft or an 8ft x 6ft. Elite sheds offer this and a bespoke option hence it's worth giving them a call. They will supply and deliver any shed, timber garage, summerhouse, playhouse in Scotland.

Plumbing, Heating and Bathroom Specialists in Glasgow

Plumbing, Heating and Bathroom Specialists in Glasgow

It's difficult to find a reliable one stop plumbing, heating and bathroom company that's honest, reliable and good at what they do. That's until now. There is one company based on the north side of Glasgow in Bearsden. This company is call AkwaPlumb Plumbing and Bathrooms.

If you're thinking about having your bathroom re-fitted or have a completely black canvas into which you want an additional bathroom or en-suite, Glasgow and it's outer suburbs is a great place to look. With many large to small bathroom showrooms all within a 20 minute drive of each other you can get some great ideas of room layout and bathroom furniture and accessory functionality.

There is so many bathroom products on offer ranging from traditional Victorian style bathrooms to modern Shaker style bathrooms to the outrageous designer contemporary bathroom suite. Usually the more contemporary bathroom furniture and radiators can be a lot more expensive but add real wow factor to any property.

It's a safe bet to go middle of the road when it comes to choosing a bathroom suite though as when it comes to selling your property any potential buyer would not be put off your bathroom suite. If your bathroom is too modern or too traditional it can have a 'marmite' effect. You either love it or hate it! This is risky if your thinking about selling your property anytime soon.

If you have a tight budget and want to get a real bargain buy your bathroom suite online. With low running costs ecommerce bathroom stores really can't be beaten on price. The downside to buying online is you can't see your new bathroom upfront and personal which can be off putting for a lot of people.

The other option is to get your bathroom supplied and fitted by an established Glasgow bathroom company. These companies usually show you your options from brochures and often able to offer a trade discount on any given bathroom suite.

The best way to achieve your perfect bathroom is to do the leg work and visit at least three bathroom showrooms, choose your bathroom, get the relevant brochure, show it to your bathroom installer to see if they can offer you the exact bathroom suite at a discounted price.

Whatever bathroom you choose, my advice is do your homework...it may save you £1000's!!!

Get squirrels, rats and birds out your loft / attic

Get squirrels out your loft / attic

Are you hearing noises in your loft. This maybe a sound of tiny footsteps or a scratching sound. For sure you have an issue with some form of wildlife in your loft. This maybe in the form of a Squirrel or a bird that nesting or even a mouse or rat!

If ignored this can be very costly as these little rodents can create a big mess and chew electrical cables which is a potential fire risk. Any noise should be investigated immediately. The visible signs of wildlife habitation, commonly comes in the form of droppings. If you think you have uninvited guests call your local and trusted pest control company and don't try and remove the rodents yourself as they may carry horrible bugs and diseases.

Acting quickly will also reduce the risk of these creatures from breeding, which for obvious reasons you don't want to happen!

The use of professional pest control services will not only irradiate the problem but they will find the cause of the problem and entry points of which the animals entered and suggest how to stop them from re-entering your loft space in future. This maybe a very cost effective solution, like placing chicken wire around your eaves to stop birds and squirrels from entering.

It is important to note that it is an offence to release grey squirrels back into the wild, once caught in a cage, they must be destroyed humanely. In contrast, red squirrels must be released into the wild.

Bed Bugs

A fully fed bedbug

BED BUGS

There seems to be an increase in reported cases of bed bugs at the moment. The common bed bug (Cimex lectularius). Bed bugs feed on blood, causing itchy bites and generally irritating their human hosts.

Like most bugs the humble bed bug if very tricky to spot. The secret is to know you've got infestation, with an early diagnosis being critical be cause you don't want these little critters to spread and become established.

Obviously treating a minor infestation will be a lot cheaper than a widespread one. so looking for the signs of bed bugs is key. Look out for small red or dark dots (1mm) on your bed or bed sheets. If you think you may have an infestation don't panic or worry. As mentioned it's very treatable with the right professional pest control team.

If Glasgow City Pest Solutions are this very team. They have a wealth of experience in bed bug control and will promptly arrive at your property in their unmarked vehicle and eradicate your bed bugs.

Builders Glasgow

In times of economic uncertainty, with all of us trying to cut back on what we spend, it may be that you don’t want to spend too much money on extensions, renovations, alterations and electrical work but it is worth considering that all of these jobs will ultimately enhance the value of your property.

The housing market is pretty stagnant at the moment so adding an extension will not only provide you with more space but the extra space might be the difference between selling your property or not. Now is not a good time for selling property so if you love where you live and are not considering selling, some renovation work, alterations or an extension might be just what you need to make your home more spacious or comfortable.

Scottish Building Services have a track record built up over many years of providing excellent quality work for a very fair price.
Their experienced, qualified builders can create perfect extensions both in build quality and aesthetic appeal, matching the existing appearance of your home so that your extension blends in as an exact match.

Working throughout the Strathaven, Hamilton, Glasgow, East Kilbride, Newton Mearns, Giffnock, Barrhead and Clarkston areas, we have a strong team of all trades builders as well as qualified electricians and plumbers.

Their Builders in Glasgow can add a matching roof or a flat roof depending on your requirements to your extension or as part of renovation or alteration works.

Feng Shui your fitted kitchen

The Edinburgh Kitchen Company are aware that their customers will have many design requirements and a Feng Shui layout is fast becoming a popular choice.
The colour scheme:  Never opt for colours which represent Fire Elements such as pink, purple or red as these will fuel arguments and a discord of harmony.  Instead choose plenty of cool white shades, light greens, blues and beige.  This is a popular colour choice for many fitted kitchen designs in the Edinburgh region.
Blending materials:  Feng Shui is made up of five metals consisting of Earth, Fire, Water, Metal and Wood.  The kitchen uses a combination of both water and fire but these elements should never be placed together.  For example, the sink, fridge, freezer, dishwasher or washing machine should never be positioned alongside or opposite the cooker.  If you have no choice but to do so, use a set of wooden spoons or a chopping board (anything wooden) to separate the two features.
Cooking on gas:  Nothing can express the full energy of fire as a gas flame… Every day the sun nourishes our homes with its energetic rhythm known as Chi and a gas flame emanates the heat of that sun.  Install a gas cooker and not only will your meals taste better but after just ten days of cooking on gas you will notice a greater increase of Chi plus all cooked meals will taste just that little bit better.
Ensure that all work surfaces have rounded edges as sharp corners can cause tension and the dining area should be positioned away from the microwave or toaster as this will cause emotional upset between family members.
Now, with your newly fitted kitchen assembled Feng Shui style there is no reason why you should not be cooking up a banquet every single day!

Fitted Kitchens Glasgow…How to outwit the dreaded salesperson

Whilst there are many experienced kitchen fitters in the Edinburgh region, there are many who will fail to meet their customer’s expectations.  We all know of a family member or friend who has been less than impressed with a dream kitchen that turned into a nightmare.  Kitchen fitters are unregulated which means that customer’s must safeguard themselves against disappointment and a loss of money.
There are kitchen fitters in the Edinburgh area and throughout the UK who offer a Ten Year Guarantee:  I defy anyone to browse through a 2009 edition of the Yellow Pages and not find an advertisement from a kitchen company offering such a promise.  Upon further investigation it will become evident that the company no longer exists in 2013. Therefore, it is vital to check how long a company has been running before signing on the dotted line.   The longer they have been in business the more chance you have of that guarantee being honoured.
Any good kitchen fitter will be proud to show off his testimonials and allow you to inspect his ‘thank you’ letters, cards or emails.  If this proof of satisfaction is shown in email form, ask if you can view a recent installation.
Companies such as The Edinburgh Kitchen Company do not draw in  customers by offering one time sales offers or huge sales cuts so do not be forced into buying a kitchen simply because the salesperson leads you to believe that you have a once in a lifetime bargain.  More often than not, these discounts will continue to pop up month in month out.
Ensure that the company you chose has its own fitters for both the cabinets and appliances.  Never be talked into purchasing from someone who asks you to pay separately for this service as the kitchen fitter will most likely blame the kitchen company when something goes wrong and vice versa.  This means that you may never have your alterations or problems rectified.

The benefits of choosing a kitchen fitter in Glasgow

Something magical happens when you choose a kitchen fitter in Edinburgh…that Scottish pride tends to emanate throughout your cuisine as it stirs the senses and satisfies the soul.
Whether your needs are fairly straightforward or you have specific requirements, the aim to please is evident in every fitted cupboard, drawer and worktop.  This means that you end up with a kitchen that beckons you to cook up some wonderful meals.
A kitchen fitter in Edinburgh will turn a drab kitchen that just about suits your needs into one which has you gliding from oven to fridge to sink with the greatest of ease. Take advantage of the assistance offered when choosing designs as they need to fit into the size and shape of your room.  Complement this with your chosen materials and colours and your fitted kitchen will not only be highly practical, it will also be aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Obtain quotes from two or three kitchen fitters in the Edinburgh region before making your final decision…remember you are not under any obligation to accept quotes so shop around for your kitchen fitter in the same way as you would for a new sofa or bed.  This gives you the freedom to compare prices and choose someone who most understands your needs both financially and creatively.
The Edinburgh Kitchen Company can be found in the heart of Edinburgh…they base each and every quote upon layout, design, the number of appliances that are required along with any extras included in the makeover.  Not only will your kitchen raise an eyebrow when it is fully fitted and complete, the final cost will also raise a smile or two as they are rarely beaten by their competitors.

The old and the new…

When it comes to fitted kitchens, people normally have an idea as to whether they would like an ultra- modern design or something more traditional but if you want something a little different why not blend the past with modern day elegance?
Although many prefer to live in the present and leave the past behind the retro look is far from outdated. Glancing through some of the electrical stores in Glasgow, it is easy to spot modern day versions of old-fashioned kettles, microwaves, teapots etc.,  All exuding the essence of yesteryear but running with modern day efficiency.
Flooring:  Create that Olde World feel with a slate floor as a beautiful and stunning feature.  Blend it with slick modern day kitchen cupboards and your kitchen fitter will be inundated with new customers wanted to combine the old with the new!
Work Surfaces:  Emanate the essence of the past by having solid wood surfaces fitted in place of laminate.  Not only is wood extremely durable, it is also environmentally friendly if you opt for timber which has been recycled.
Cupboards:  Kitchen cupboards are the soul of a fitted kitchen and can hide or emphasise according to your requirements.  Create a traditional style but use modern day white goods and hide them behind cupboards which have that dated look.
Electrical Appliances:  Retro-themed refrigerators, washing machines and even a traditional range will all add to the aire of days gone by and blend perfectly with modern day fitted kitchens.
Gadgets:  The finishes touches can be achieved according to your budget.  Visit car boot sales or antique shops to pick up copper pans, pestle and mortars and even old fashioned jelly moulds for decorative charm.
Browsing through the many designs at Akwa Plumb kitchens it is easy to see how the past can be blended with the present to create an unusual and versatile look which will yield complements from both the younger generation and the older one too!

Landscapers Glasgow

Finding a time-served tradesman is becoming a lot harder in these times of austerity. Why you may be asking. Over the last two years many tradesmen who work for larger organisations are being made redundant. They come off the building sites and set up a business like a landscaping business with little or no experience. Inturn they offer crazy prices for their services under-cutting timeserved tradesmen  who have been in their industries for many years. The problem is these rookies aren't doing a good job and their customers are having to get a professional in to rectify the mess they leave behind.

Ronald Tamburrini of Nevis Landscaping and Brickwork has over 31 years experience in the landscaping industry, specialising in a wide variety of private and commercial projects throughout Glasgow, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, Dumbartonshire, North & South Lanarkshire areas.

Guitar Lessons Glasgow

Finding the right guitar tutor in big cities like Glasgow can be relatively easy. With the wonders of the internet you should be able to get guitar lessons quickly. But beware, like everything, the right guitar tutor for one person is not always right for another.

Yes most guitar tutors are very good at their trade, but are they good at teaching. So many times I've heard people say that the tutor is very good but after 6 lessons I feel I haven't learnt anything.

If you are a beginner be sure your guitar tutor writes basic chords  down on piece of paper or if you are really organised take in a note book for them to write revision notes in. This is so important if you want to learn guitar or any other musical instrument.

Guitar lessons usually last for an hour. A good honest guitar tutor will go just over this time and a not so good one will be looking at the watch.

My advice is when you call a guitar tutor have a list of 3 or 4 questions. Go once and make sure the first lesson is a reduced rate (most guitar tutors do this). My guitar tutor David Brewster is very good and highly recommend him. But before you call him check out his website ate www.guitar-guitarlessonsglasgow.com

Kitchen Storage

One of the most important things to think about when you are planning your new kitchen is storage. Where will I put my cups, pots and pans and glasses? This can get over-looked, which would prove to be a disaster. A lot of kitchens these days are more than just cooking the evening meal they are a place to socialise with friends and family.

You may have had a garage conversion and extended your kitchen and now your new kitchen has a complete new meaning. It's now a family area where the children play games and watch TV. You will need to start thinking where to store the Monopoly board the chess pieces and the Wi. Because if there isn't anywhere to put them they will soon spill out into the main kitchen area. Get the storage right and the kitchen will become a safer, cleaner and more enjoyable place for everyone.

Kitchen Worktops

No matter how large or small a kitchen is there is a necessity for as much worktop area as possible to be available for the preparation of food and the various small domestic appliances that need to be close at hand.

If you can afford it granite or stainless steel worktops are an excellent choice because you can place dishes and pans directly onto these types of materials. They also have a naturally cool surface so are excellent for rolling out pastry. Not only that, they will last a lifetime. Marble is not a great choice because it is expensive, will stain and over time will erode and crumble particularly around corners and edges. Modern laminates are more durable than they used to be and are the least expensive of all worktop materials. However, if you spend a lot of time preparing food and cooking the care that has to be taken with making sure you use chopping boards, rather than cutting food directing on top of the work surface and place settings for pots and pans when they are taken off the hob or out of the oven, may be more hassle than it is worth.

Laminate work surfaces certainly look attractive since they are now made in so many designs including marble and granite effect and they provide a cheap way to make kitchen work surfaces look magnificent. Often used in rental property laminates can be false economy since tenants are renowned for having no great respect for other people's property and you may need to replace these types of worktops much more frequently than if you had chosen something a little more expensive, but hard-wearing. Companies like Akwa Plumb Kitchens Glasgow have several years of experience in the supply and installation of laminate, granite, quartz and solid wood kitchen worktops.

Kitchen Renew v Kitchen Refurbish?

With many households in the Glasgow area, adding value to your property is paramount in todays market. many households are not making the capital gains of 10 - 15 years ago. More and more people are deciding not to move but improve. The kitchen and bathroom area is the most common place to start as these areas add the most value to your property.

Choosing the right kitchen is vital to any household as this will be one of the biggest expense you'll have to make. The big question for most people is is it cost effective to renew their kitchen or refurbish the existing one. So what do I mean by refurbishing the existing one. The simplest way and most affordable way is to re-face old, tired kitchen worktops and doors. It's amazing what results you can achieve by doing just that. It's affordable and doesn't take long to do. However you will need a professional kitchen fitter like Akwa Plumb Kitchens of Glasgow to cut your worktops.

With hundreds of kitchen sinks, taps and other neat accessories to choose from in the Glasgow area you can be sure to find something suitable for your budget to refurbish your kitchen.

Then there's the more costly alternative, a complete new kitchen. This is sometimes the best option especially if you are doing a garage conversion and want to enlarge your existing kitchen. Of course this requires a reputable builder and plumber. Akwa Plumb Plumbers Glasgow has the capability to undertake this kind of work. If you do have a reasonable budget and want everything new the a brand new kitchen is the way to go. Fitted Kitchens Glasgow

In recent years one of the 3 most popular projects in home improvements has been the re-modelling of the kitchen. Apart from being a functional room for culinary skills the kitchen is also a social place to have coffee with friends and neighbours and to spend time with the family at breakfast or other mealtimes. Dining rooms tend to be used more for special occasions and dinner parties nowadays.
There is usually one design flaw or another in older kitchens that with some imagination and expertise can be corrected to allow more space for storage or worktop area. However, the most difficult kitchens to remodel are the small ones.

If your budget is limited you may feel restricted in what you can do but there are many options available in the marketplace at an affordable price that can transform your old kitchen into a superb, energy efficient and attractive social hub for all the family.

Domestic Appliances
Stainless steel appliances not only look good but are the appliances of choice in catering kitchens. They are available in brushed, normal or manufactured with a stainless steel appearance. These domestic appliances will change the entire appearance of any kitchen and having been available for some years the prices have reduced dramatically.
As technology has progressed most modern domestic appliances are manufactured with energy efficiency priority. Many models not only look good but will also save you significant money on fuel bills.

Built in ovens, microwaves, washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers make the most of the space available together with storage cupboards for the smaller kitchen gadgetry that can often be found on worktops.

Kitchen Cabinets and Storage Space

If design is not your strong point, you should try to use the design services of your supplier of fitted kitchens because more often than not they free. It is quite staggering how a good designer can fit many more cupboards into a small space than you imagined were possible. A professional fitted kitchens designer will make sure that there is sufficient space in a cabinet for plates and other crockery as near as possible or next to your dishwasher alleviating the necessity for you to walk more distance than you have to.
A cabinet with sliding shelves and drawers next to the oven will afford easy access to pots and pans, tea cloths, oven gloves and other utensils whilst keeping them out of sight. Built in capacity to store vegetables and bread is also a better than having these items in baskets or bread bins on the work surfaces.

Kitchen Lighting
The use of halogen lighting and other lights positioned on the underside of the top kitchen units will make the kitchen space look bigger and more inviting.

Where to Buy

It is often considered that going to a kitchen showroom in the UK that has a sale on will bag you a bargain, but these sales tend to be on all of the time which makes one wonder whether they are selling kitchens and appliances that were over priced in the first place.
Using a local fitted kitchens supplier can often be very cost effective; and if you inadvertently damage something you know that they are just around the corner so more likely to fix it quickly, as opposed to a national firm that might take months to get round to doing a small job. For example, if you live in Glasgow and want a fitted kitchen, why would you order it from a company based in London?

A little research on the internet for fitted kitchen suppliers in your area is well worth the effort because the small suppliers will often go the extra mile to service your requirements and with a friendly personal touch.

Donald Patrick is the owner of the Akwa Plumb Group of Companies and is based in Glasgow.
Offering affordable all round plumbing services together with the supply and installation of fitted kitchens in Glasgow, Bearsden, Milngavie and surrounding areas anyone looking for a friendly, affordable and efficient service will find more details on the Fitted Kitchens Glasgow website at www.fittedkitchensglasgow.net or call 0141 955 0921
